Look Unto Jesus

Scott Gravitt Season 1 Episode 25

As this series of "Looks" and Season 1 come to a close, always remember that Jesus is the Way to eternal life.

For it is My Father’s will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”  -John 6:40

Thank you for listening to this heartfelt production!  Lord willing, Season 2 will be an improvement over an experimental, rookie season. Stay TWOned!

On one occasion in the New Testament, one of Jesus’s disciples, Peter made the critical error of taking his eyes off Jesus during a storm on the sea, looking instead at the fierce winds, which caused him to sink with Jesus then pulling him to safety.

Later in the ministry, Peter was still learning the same lesson.  After Jesus was risen from the grave, we see Him appear to His disciples by the very same sea.  Jesus gives Peter some instruction and encouragement, but then tells Peter something unsettling.  Basically, Peter would be imprisoned and later die.  After telling Peter this, Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”

At this moment, Peter turned and saw another disciple, presumably John nearby.  The text reads in John 21:21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus,

“Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”

Peter here did something very human- comparing his circumstances to someone else’s.  Sometimes we wonder why our situations are different than others’ and we conclude it’s not fair.  What Peter needed to learn and us as well, is that God has a track record of righteousness,  justice, and goodness.  He has earned our trust.

Peter needed to look to Jesus and see the son of God, someone worth following, no matter the implications.  We simply don’t have the capacity to understand the complex intricacies of God’s workings.  Colossians 1 tells us Christ made all things, visible and invisible and in Him all things are held together.  That’s a sophisticated job that He is uniquely qualified to handle.

So let’s not be distracted – but let us ever look unto Jesus.
