The Resurrection Wasn’t Good Enough

What's more wonderful than the resurrection unto eternal life?!? If our outlook is skewed and our heart isn't right, we might offer any number of things. 


John 12
12 On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!”

 17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead was testifying about it. 18 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign.


John 11:25
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.


Mark 16:6
He said to them, “Don’t be amazed. You seek Jesus, the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen. He is not here. Behold, the place where they laid him!

In the final week of His earthly ministry, Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem to great fanfare.  In John 12 we read:

…the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city.  A large crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him. They shouted,

 “Hosanna!

Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!

Hail to the King of Israel!”

It then tells us why they were so excited:

  “Many in the crowd had seen Jesus call Lazarus from the tomb, raising him from the dead, and they were telling others about it.

 The people of Israel correctly saw Him as a life-giver, and even shouted “Hosanna” which means, “God save us”.  Yet, they rejected His message of salvation, and in a few days shouted, “crucify Him!”  The problem?  What they wanted was an earthly King who would lead them in triumph over the oppressive Romans.  When it became apparent that wasn’t going to happen, they lost interest and turned against Him.

 
A similar attitude can persist in us today:  we may want Jesus to change our environment, the world, others. (That would be nice).  But He demands that you and I look inwardly.  He says that we must be born again. 

 Their cry of “God save of us” was in fact answered.  Jesus offered salvation.  However, their goals were worldly and short-sighted.  To gain eternal life through His death, burial and resurrection, it would require them to change their lives. 

 So, is the resurrection unto eternal life good enough for you, or do expect something else from Jesus?
